The 40-Year Journey
I started working out as a 140 lb freshman in high school. While I loved the muscularity and the compliments, I graduated at 155 lbs and felt that at 5'8", my frame wasn't ideal for competition. Back in the late '80s, I also had no idea that natural bodybuilding federations even existed.
Fast forward 40 years: a same acquaintance from the gym saw me again and encouraged me to finally step on stage. This time, I bit. Since then, I've secured Pro Masters cards in two federations and competed at the highest levels, including Mr. America and the WNBF Worlds.
Placing 1st in the Amateur Mr. America 2024 (50+) was a definitive milestone. For me, fitness is about longevity and finally seeing what happens when you say "yes" to the challenges you once thought weren't for you.

The Competitive Timeline
From a high school gym enthusiast to a World-level masters competitor
The Foundation
Began training as a 140 lb high school freshman. Built a solid base but stayed clear of the stage, unaware of the natural bodybuilding community.
Endurance Era
Focused on road races for a decade prior to bodybuilding. Completed three marathons in 2008, maintaining a high level of cardiovascular health.
Entering the Feds
Finally decided to compete after 40 years of training. Earned Pro Masters cards in two different natural federations.
Mr. America Victory
Placed 1st in the Amateur Mr. America 50+ category, proving that age is just a number when it comes to peak conditioning.
The Next Chapter
Aiming to compete in more Pro level shows, obtain an open pro card, and transition into judging to give back to the sport.
Preparation & Lifestyle
How a Masters Pro balances high-level conditioning with everyday life
Metabolism-Based Cardio
With a naturally fast metabolism, I avoid conventional cardio. Instead, I rely on my background in road racing, occasionally sneaking in a race or two a month even during contest prep.
The Balance
Off the stage, I'm a passionate baker. I spend my free time baking cookies and brownies for my family and friends—reminding me that fitness is just one part of a full life.
The Judging Perspective
I've paid close attention to how judges provide critiques. I hope to use my experience as a competitor to transition into judging and stay involved in the competitive capacity.
Open Pro Goal
While I don't necessarily expect to win at the open pro level, I want to obtain that card just to say I did it. It's about the personal challenge and the journey over the destination.
