CASEY DARK

Rancho, NM

My name is Casey Dark. I'm 41 years old. My wife and I are a blended family with 5 kids. I have always tried to be in good shape. I was a competitive runner in my 30s. I've completed 2 half marathons and countless 5k and 10k races. I hold a black belt in Kajukenbo and black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I'm not the most built or swole guy but I am an avid weight lifter. I also trained MMA and have competed in several grappling tournaments as well as a kickboxing fight. In 2020 my wife and I decided to check something off of the bucket list and signed up to go skydiving. The tandem instructor did not show up so the skydiving club offered to put us through a 6 hour class so we could still do it. We had already paid so I went for it.

The dive was thrilling and went great but upon landing I snapped my tibia and fractured my fibula. My wife was supposed to go next but had to drive me to the hospital instead where I had emergency surgery. They put an external fixative on and then two weeks later I had a second surgery where they installed a titanium plate and 13 screws. I couldn't walk for the better part of 9 months and consequently got more fat and out of shape then I have ever been.

Once my leg healed I had a choice to make, accept that I'm in my 40s now and be content as a fat old man, or get back in the gym and reclaim my youthful physique. I chose the latter. I dropped almost 40lbs, got my six pack back, started training BJJ and received my second black belt, opened a martial arts school and I'm now starting a fitness/weight loss coaching business to help other men out there who are feeling like they are too old to get in shape. I train 5-6 days a week at a local power lifting/MMA gym where I lift, do HIIT training and kickboxing. I also teach Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing classes 4 days a week.
