Living my best life means making fitness a priority, especially with the health challenges I face. Born with a congenital heart condition and dealing with multiple autoimmune disorders, I’ve learned that staying on top of my health requires integrating exercise into my daily routine in every possible way. It helps me breathe easier, sleep better, stay focused, and clear my mind. As a survivor of open-heart surgery, I refuse to let my heart defect define me. Instead, I choose to believe in my own strength and resilience.

In my profession as an attorney, stress is a constant companion. The adversarial nature of the legal field can toughen you up, but it also brings relentless pressure and negativity. To counteract this, I make sure to check in with myself regularly and do everything I can to stave off the stress. For me, working out is always the best part of my day, a crucial time for maintaining my mental and physical health.

When COVID-19 struck, my ability to go to the gym was severely restricted. Being immunodeficient, my doctors advised me to take my workouts either at home or outdoors. Fortunately, I live near a beautiful Greenway with over 20 miles of trails, perfect for hiking, cycling, running, and walking. My dog and I love exploring these paths, taking in the fresh air and the beauty of nature.

Given that winter takes up a significant part of the year where I live, indoor exercise is a necessity. This is where my Peloton comes in. With thousands of workouts at my disposal, I am always challenged and never bored. The Peloton offers guided rides that virtually take me all over the world without leaving my home. It also provides strength training, weightlifting, traditional cycling training, Pilates, meditation, and more. With such a variety of options, I have no excuse to ever miss a day of exercise.

Incorporating these workouts into my life has been transformative. It’s not just about staying fit; it’s about embracing a lifestyle that supports my overall well-being. My fitness journey helps me manage my health conditions, reduce stress, and maintain a positive outlook. By prioritizing my physical activity, I ensure that I can continue to live my best life, despite the challenges that come my way.

Whether I’m hitting the trails with my dog or pushing myself through a demanding Peloton session, I’m constantly reminded of the strength and resilience I possess. My heart defect and autoimmune disorders are part of my story, but they don’t define my narrative. My journey is one of empowerment, proving that with determination and the right mindset, we can all overcome our obstacles and thrive.
